Obstetric violence

Your rights during childbirth and medical care.

What it covers

We advise and represent people who have experienced mistreatment, undignified treatment, or interventions without consent during prenatal care, childbirth, or the postnatal period. We assess the legal remedies available given the context and your goals, and help you organize your account, identify the relevant medical records, and set a clear strategy.

Our approach is humane and careful: we want you to be able to exercise your rights with information, respect, and support, working to avoid revictimization along the way.

Depending on the case, the scope of the service may include:

  • Legal guidance and planning of next steps
  • Formal communications or letters to hospitals, agencies, or professional bodies
  • Representation before the courts of Puerto Rico, where appropriate
  • Assessment of possible damages claims under the applicable framework (for example, medical malpractice)
